At my day job today, we have people from Wind Cave National Park using our “hotel office” – the space we have reserved for DOI people that are in SLC from out of town and need a place to work for the day. I had never heard of this particular park, so I did a bit of research to learn more about it. I was instantly captivated and immediately wanted to plan a trip to go see this amazing marvel! Caves have always been a fascination for me… and why wouldn’t they be? They are ALWAYS found in dark places and I love exploring the dark!
In the process of researching, I came across this paragraph and I felt it hit me in the gut because THIS is so true of all the work I do… exploring the unknown, the hidden, and the covered to bring Light to the darkness therein.
“When Alvin McDonald notes in his diary that he’d given up on the idea of ever finding the end to Wind Cave, that did not deter him from exploring. It was merely the realization that the exploration of Wind Cave, like everything else in the universe, is a never ending process. There is always the need to describe the new, there will always be the need to look around the next bend into the unknown.”
