For My Daughter

Over eleven years ago, a miracle happened in my life.

I gave birth to a child. A girl-child who holds peace in her hands, healing in her soul and magic in her entire being. The moment I felt her release from my body, I was ensconced in a golden heat unlike anything I had experienced before. There was a moment’s pause and then my doctor announced I had given birth to a perfect little girl. They placed a messy, squirmy, shiny bundle in my arms and I exploded in love and wonder. She stilled instantly, her eyes opening wide and staring at my face. Although I had been coached that she wasn’t quite able to see yet, it felt like I was more seen in that moment than I had ever been in my life. In that moment, I was forever changed.
