I have read the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki before at the behest of Mr. Millionaire. When I read it before, I read all the way to Chapter Nine: “Getting Started.” It was there that I stopped. I was good with the reading, the thinking and the feeling. But the doing? Uh-uh. No way.
Well, for some reason, I picked up this book again. Perhaps it is because my library is very limited here in my petite guest room. In fact, I was actually surprised to see this book in my basket of books. I don’t remember selecting it to go with us. But, there it was and I needed a book to read with my daughter, so I grabbed it.
My daughter is enjoying the story. It actually is a fun read, very personal and down to earth – easy enough for a ten year old to understand so far. She loved the part about the nine year olds that decided to make money.
The section we just finished last night was difficult for me to read, though, especially with where I am in my life right now. He spoke about fear in relation to money and how so many people give in to that fear and live their life safely, without risks, especially financially. I could relate all too well.
Something has changed for me, though. When I read this book the first time, I was simply curious. This time, I feel excited and eager. And I surprised myself with my answer when I read Rich Dad’s question: “…I just wanted to find out if you still have the passion to learn about money. Most people don’t. They want to go to school, learn a profession, have fun at their work and earn lots of money. One day they wake up with big money problems and then they can’t stop working. That’s the price of only knowing how to work for money instead of studying how to have money work for you. So do you still have the passion to learn?”
It is a resounding yes. TEACH ME!
