When this song came out in 1992, I was instantly moved to tears every time I heard it. It called to me, pulling at some deep core feeling in me… a memory that I couldn’t quite place. I was in a relationship at the time, on my way to being married and… yet… the haunting message of this song, the full expression of love within it did not match the space I was in inside that relationship.
Every time I hear it, I picture a misty train station, a lover going off to war…
This morning, it surprised me by coming on for the first time in I don’t remember how long on my pandora station. I had the same instantaneous body reactions and I paused in the middle of my work to be with the song. For the first time ever, I researched the lyrics and discovered that it talks about saying goodbye at a train station. Perhaps that is why it calls that “memory” to my mind.
At any rate, it started playing this morning and instantly, my hair stood on end, my eyes filled with tears and that pull from the past woke up in me again. I felt myself drawn down the path toward that lover that had once been beside me, that lover who knows my heart, knows my song, knows my love, knows my dreams, knows my weakness, knows my strength and loves me all the more.
Everywhere I have gone, I have been searching and watching for The One who answers my call. That One that I know I promised to meet.
Somewhere… somehow… we will find one another. I trust that to be true.

Lyrics:
Somewhere Somehow
Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant
(Michael W. Smith, Kirkpatrick, Amy Grant, David Foster)
Standing in our silence
I hear my heart beating
And if only I could choose
I’d stay here with you
But hold me ’til the train is leaving
Somewhere down the line
After you’re gone from sight
Our love will be the same
And, whispering your name,
I’ll cling to you with all my might
Let me dream of you
But it’s true
And wake me up when this is over
Love will be there when this is over and
[Chorus]
Somewhere far beyond today
I will find a way to find you
And somehow through the lonely nights
I will leave a light in the dark
Let it lead you to my heart
There’s a love inside us
Deep down inside
That goes without saying
Don’t say a word
But I’ll tell you just the same
And that love will fan the flame
And that flame will warm the heart that’s waiting
You are mine and I’ll wait for you my love
You are mine it may take some time
Even if it takes a lifetime
Tell me you’ll wait
[Chorus]
And somewhere alone
I will be praying you home
I know that somehow our love
Our love will lead me to your arms
