Whether you believe in God, Heavenly Father, or a Universal Organizational Energy, in every one of those belief systems, there is a tenet that teaches all people come from the same source (“We are all God’s children,” or “Heavenly Father created each of us,” or “We are all energy.”)
If we all come from the same source, we are all the same stuff no matter our skin color, religious belief, sexuality, education level, or financial status. Any group of people that chooses to set themselves apart from the whole is actually *not* adhering to the truth – that we are all One.
According to the dictionary, “family” means: “a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not; a social unit consisting of one or more adults together with the children they care for…” Any distinction about what gender those parents are creates a separative energy that holds “us” apart from “them” as a means of defining what is “right” and what is “wrong.”
“Natural Family” is defined as being “a man and a woman rearing children.” I’d like to point out that this definition removes from the equation any heterosexual parent who is raising his/her children alone. That person and that person’s children are not a natural family because he/she is only one. In the World Congress of Family’s attempt to separate their “natural families” from those they deem to be “unnatural,” (meaning the same sex marriages), they are also devaluing the position of a single parent. According to a report by legalmomentum.org, “At a given time in 2013, 28% of children [in the U.S.] were living with a single parent. Half or more of today’s children will likely spend at least part of their childhood in a single parent family.”
“Natural Family” is simply a label that has been created to separate “us/right” from “them/wrong” and I invite anyone who believes in that as being gospel truth to take a moment and really look at themselves and ask, “How does it serve me to be right and make ‘them’ wrong?”
In truth, it doesn’t. And all the Christians who are behind this “Natural Family” act are defying the words of the very man they claim to follow. In the words of one of my favorite primary songs:
Jesus said love ev’ryone;
Treat them kindly, too.
When your heart is filled with love,
Others will love you.
